10 Crochet Patterns for Mother’s Day Gifts

Not long now until Mother’s Day - 19th March 2023. Are you planning to crochet something for your mother this year? I designed the Aphrodite Cushion Cover last year to give to my mother on Mother’s Day. As you might already know, she didn’t actually receive it… my daughters decided that they couldn’t do without it lol.

This year I am making amends! I gifted my daughter a pink version of the cushion for Christmas; when my mum saw it she asked for one in grey for Mother’s Day. It seems that she was destined to eventually get her own Aphrodite Cushion lol. She picked out her own colours and the yarn has now been ordered - check out my video blog over the next few episodes if you’d like to see how it goes :)

Every mum deserves to be treated on Mother’s Day. (I say this as a mum to three little girlies who always go out of their way to make me feel special). A crocheted gift, in my opinion, is perfect because it coveys a strong message of love. The time and effort that you put into a handmade item are worth far more to a mother than an overpriced commerically-produced gift. To this end, I have curated a list of 10 beautiful crochet patterns that my mother (or I) would love to receive, and I hope that your mother would too!

  1. The Aphrodite Cushion Cover by Elimee Designs - given it’s significance to me (as mentioned above), I felt that I would kick off the list with an Elimee Designs pattern. This crochet pattern was recently featured in the ‘Spruce Up Your Space’ blog hop and downloaded by hundreds of people. Hopefully this means that a few will be gifted to some lucky mums this Mother’s Day.

If you like this pattern you might also enjoy it’s sister pattern - the Aphrodite C2C Blanket.

2. The Denim Grace Shawl by Canoe Mtn Designs - how beautiful is this shawl! This pattern made it onto my list because I fell in love with the sample photographed below. The combination of stitches along with the stunning shade of blue turned my head. I can’t wait to make one for myself :)

3. The Tulips Potholder by Raffamusa Designs - I was drawn to this crochet pattern over the other potholders that I came across courtesy of the tulips featured within the design. Tulips happen to be my mother’s favourite flower, so I am sure that she would be incredibly pleased were she to receive one from me… a potential gift for next year!

5. The Emmett Candle/Jar Cozy by Denimade - if you’re short on time or looking for something more practical check out this lovely crochet pattern. It is multifunctional, easy to adapt and free. Both my mother and I love scented candles, so I think that this would make a fantastic gift.

6. The Harbor Bag by Stitchberry - temporarily moving away from the flower theme that seems to be dominating this list so far, is this simple yet elegant bag. With multiple potential uses for this practical item, I think that any mother would appreciate receiving one this year. It is also an ideal design for playing around with embellishments if that is something that takes your fancy.
